Oxidative Stress

Oxidative stress….the word for today it seems. For the two years, we have been exploring the use of our product, Cur-OST, in horses with arthritis, navicular disease and laminitis. We have seen some dramatic results, but were somewhat perplexed as to why. We published one trial in the AHVMA journal this year revealing how we were able to reduce joint inflammatory mediators with use of the product. By reducing these mediators, we were able to relieve pain and inflammation, which lead to our results clinically. About 4 months ago, we purchased a device called the FRAS-4. This stands for Free Radical Analytical System, made in Italy and just recently released in the USA. The device was designed and intended for human oxidative stress research, but we have implemented in our clinical trials as well as in our veterinary practice. So, what does the device measure. Specifically, it measures the levels of free radicals or reactive oxygen species as well as the antioxidant potential in a small sample of blood from the patient. What we are looking for is evidence of OXIDATIVE STRESS. Oxidative stress is a clinical situation in which free radicals outnumber the ability of the antioxidants. Free radicals or ROS are unstable oxygen derivatives that can lead to clinical disease such as inflammation if the levels get too high. Antioxidants are molecules that essentially neutralize the free radicals, keeping them in check if you will. There is a tremendous amount of human research that is pointing towards oxidative stress as being a major component to various diseases, including diabetes, cancer, bowell disorders, cardiovascular disease and many others.

So…what have we found out. In our horses trials, specifically those with insulin resistance and laminitis, we have discovered that about 98% of those patients are undergoing oxidative stress. When we put them on the Cur-OST product and recheck them in 14 days, we note that their oxidative stress levels are markedly improved as well as the overall lameness of the horse. We are currently in the process of trying to get our data published for equine veterinarians to view.

After reviewing this new trial data as well as our past data, it appears that the Cur-OST blend is working via two methods to improve patient health and lameness: reducing inflammatory proteins such as PGE-2 and MMP-9 as well as reducing free radical levels and increasing antioxidant potential. That is incredible and so far no side effects…only benefits.

We have been also reviewing overall health of dogs with the FRAS-4 device and are finding similiar results. It does appear that oxidative stress has a major role in many clinical diseases. We are not alone in this viewpoint. There is a tremendous amount of human research data out there to support it. In fact, an article was just released in May 2009 in the journal “Free Radical Biology & Medicine” by authors Ando and Fujita. The article is titled “Metabolic Syndrome and Oxidative Stress” and details how oxidative stress is a key player in the development of insulin resistance in humans and how antioxidants seem to abolish or decrease the clinical disease. Fascinating information.

Stay tuned for more….and thanks for viewing.

Toady we're working making informational CD's for tack shops, veterinarians and horse owners. These CD's will show the horses we've had in our research study and explain more thoroughly what Cur-OST is all about. It's hard to contain how amazing the results are. Every horse that has started this supplement has improved. The difficult thing is that not every horse owner is consistent with their care. I believe the economy has a lot to do with it, but considering the cost of veterinary medical care (not preventative), Cur-OST is more economical in the long run. The trick is to find out exactly where your horse stands healthwise.

Does he have a chronic lameness, for instance? Why is that? Is it due to chronic inflammation? How can chronic inflammation be controlled without possibly damaging the liver? What about insulin resistance? How is this even a factor in the health of my horse? How can I know whether my horse has adequate levels of antioxidants and not skyrocketing levels of free radicals? Why does this even matter?

Believe it, these questions can actually be answered and are very relavent to the health of your horse. Haven't you heard of all of the foods that are recommended for people to eat because they are antioxidants? It's all connected and it's all very valid. Follow this blog, or email with questions at info@nouvelleveterinary.com. Soon our website will also have all of the vital information for you to search on your own at www.cur-OST.com.

Getting ready for the weekend and we have lots of work to do! Just got results back on two horses that started Cur-OST two weeks ago and they are phenomenal! The owners are ecstatic because they are able to ride them again without worrying about pain or having them on bute or Banamine. It's nice to know that you're actually giving a friend some relief without having to worry about side effects. I guess what's more amazing is the fact that this supplement is all natural, reduces the insulin resistance problem, reduces inflammation and makes the horses feel better all at the same time. The absorption is no problem because the supplement is given in as pure a form as we can get it, we put it on the grain and the horses are happy. What else could you ask for?

We'll be putting together some seminars in the future to try to educate as many people as want to participate. Going to be talking about inflammation, arthritis, laminitis and the way Cur-OST works. We've been sending information to tack shops and horse owners and getting feedback with questions and curiosity! The more questions you have, the more we can answer so bring it on!

If you know anyone who would like to learn more or hold a seminar, email us at info@nouvelleveterinary.com. We'll be happy to include you on our calendars!

Cur-OST for horses

Continuing on the quest for learning more about inflammation, laminitis and arthritis? All the information you need is here online. There are many articles from noted researchers and Drs. right on the internet. All the research we've done here corresponds to the human research we've discovered. MD Anderson has many published reports on inflammation and cancer correlation. What about insulin resistance and inflammation? Arthritis is basically inflammation of the joint, so is insulin resistance a factor in arthritis? According to our studies, yes it definitely plays a part.

Amazing that all of the research being done by Drs who really care is being put off as fluff. I know why. The pharmaceutical companies realize that these Drs doing the research are also finding that the way to improve these conditions is through nutrition and supplements found in nature....not the synthetic stuff! There's poor absorption with all the synthetic vitamins people take, and yet people still pay for them. Find the right kind of real organic vitamins and nutrients your body needs so you actually can benefit from it! More than that, find out what your body REALLY needs instead of buying the BS from the pharmaceutical companies. You'll be surprised!

It all is tied together, all of our research has been done on horses, but it holds true for dogs, cats, people, mice, whatever.....

So here I am with a new perspective. Instead of criticizing the world, because it willnot change. I look within to myself to see that I can change and be the positive person I am supposed to be. So with that in mind, I go forward in this life to make a positive impact on those around me.

Well, it's a new day. We are working hard at spreading the word on Cur-ost for horses. In case you didn't know, Cur-ost is a natural supplement that was developed that helps horses with arthritis, laminitis, ringbone, etc. They are lame to start, usually on bute or someother antiinflammatory and when they are given Cur-ost in place of the other antiinflammatory, they feel better. I've seen the horses come in the barn hardly able to walk, and then they come back two weeks later and the owner is talking about what a new horse they have. It's quite phenomenal when you think of it. Here are the God-given ingredients put together that do the same thing if not more than the man-made ingredients, and with NO side effects. It's no wonder we're trying to spread the word.

After all,how many horses do you know of that have been in the show circuit and have some sort of arthritis due to the exercise regimen they endure and also have ulcer issues? I know, stress is a huge factor of the ulcers, but why exacerbate it with an antiinflammatory that will just aggravate it? If you happen to want to see some evidence, look it up at www.nouvelleveterinary.com. You'll see the testimonies and the research. Youtube.com also has some of the videos of the horses, too.
